These scripts were actually a series of manual commands that the operating system would execute, same as if you&#8217;d typed in each command individually.<\/p>\n<p>Because these scripts were a <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>series<\/em><\/span> or <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>batch<\/em><\/span> of commands, the scripts were called <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em>batch files<\/em><\/span>, and had the filename extension <strong>.bat<\/strong> .<\/p>\n<p>Most people put their batch files in the root folder\/directory, but one clever guy &#8212; I wish I remembered his name &#8212; collected all his <strong>.bat<\/strong>s in a folder called\u00a0<strong>\/belfry<\/strong> .\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><em>Permalink:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/wp.me\/paaiox-4G\">https:\/\/wp.me\/paaiox-4G<\/a><\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>(Want to ask Fred a question?
