In any case, place the laptop out of sight and out of direct sunlight (maybe under a seat?), and leave one or more car windows open a crack. If you’re in a reliably sunny location, you might invest in one of those folding sun screens for windshields (many examples); they can help keep your car closer to ambient temperatures instead of reaching solar-oven-like temps.

As soon as you can, get the still-turned-off laptop out of the high heat and into a well-ventilated spot. Leave it alone (and off) until it’s completely back to normal ambient temperature. (Remember that the guts and battery of the laptop may retain heat after the exterior has cooled. In fact, if your laptop is one of the dying breed that has a removeable battery, taking the battery out and letting it cool separately from the laptop can speed the overall cool-down process.)

Once everything’s back to normal temperatures, odds are your laptop will run just fine!

Permalink: https://langa.com/?p=3058

COMMENT / QUESTION on THIS ITEM? See the Comment box at bottom of this page!

NEW QUESTION? Ask here!

(Want free notification of new content?
