Click the three-line Menu icon in the corner. Select <strong>Bicyling<\/strong> from the left-hand menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That\u2019s all it takes.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Google will then superimpose a color-coded layer atop the normal road map showing you the area\u2019s (1) dedicated bike lanes, (2) dedicated bike paths, (3) \u2018bicycle-friendly\u2019 roads; and (4) unpaved\/dirt bike trails.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Zoom in for street-by-street detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you ask Google Maps to plot a route for you and select or say \u201cby bicycle,\u201d  Google will plot a route that avoids unnecessary hills, and sticks to bike lanes and bike-friendly roads when possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click or say \u201cNavigate,\u201d and Google will then give you turn-by-turn bicycle-specific directions as you pedal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With that kind of automated support, you can bike an unfamiliar area like a native &#8212; and in some cases, better than natives.
