Still under warranty?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First, make sure the problem isn&#8217;t something obvious: Plug the drive into different, known-working electrical power outlets; and into different, known-working USB ports. If a different PC is available, try temporarily plugging it into that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If it doesn&#8217;t work with any known-good USB port or power outlet, <strong><em>don&#8217;t waste your time looking for a fix<\/em>!<\/strong> You paid for a fully-working hard drive, and it&#8217;s not working.  It doesn\u2019t matter <em><strong>why<\/strong><\/em> it won\u2019t work. It failed when it shouldn\u2019t have, and that\u2019s that.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>File a warranty claim; return the defective drive, and demand a fully-working replacement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A rule of thumb: If an important piece of tech has serious problems (like: won&#8217;t power on!) during its warranty period, don&#8217;t mess around with it: Return it for repair or replacement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Electronic defects don&#8217;t go away or get better with use.
