How can I secure my laptop so it doesn\u2019t get stolen, without screwing holes into my desk?&#8221;"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><em><small>(Answer requested by Dennis Willis)<\/small><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&#8217;ll need a <strong>cable lock<\/strong> and either an <strong>adhesive anchor<\/strong> or a cable long enough to <strong>lasso<\/strong> itself after passing around or through an immovable object.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A PC<strong> cable lock<\/strong> (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Best-Sellers-Computers-Accessories-Computer-Security-Cables\/zgbs\/pc\/11036541\" target=\"_blank\">examples<\/a>) attaches to a security point built into most laptop bodies; the attachment point is connected to the laptop&#8217;s frame, so it can&#8217;t be removed without damaging the laptop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most laptop anchors do require screws, but some use <strong>industrial-strength adhesive<\/strong> (<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/s?k=adhesive+anchor+pc+cable+lock&amp;i=electronics&amp;ref=nb_sb_noss\" target=\"_blank\">examples<\/a>); or you can specify<strong> long lengths of cable<\/strong> that you can loop it around or through a nearby immovable object (a pipe, a structural column, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But note: Any cable lock can be defeated with wire cutters.
