Chilly temps<\/strong> (below room temp, but above freezing) will temporarily reduce the amount of power available from a given battery charge, but won\u2019t permanently hurt anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freezing cold<\/strong> may render a phone completely, but temporarily, inert. However attempting to recharge a below-freezing battery can<\/strong><\/em> cause permanent damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Extreme cold<\/strong> by itself \u2014 temperatures well below freezing \u2014 also can permanently damage a battery and\/or the device\u2019s screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

So: If your device gets significantly chilled, let it return to normal temperature in an inside pocket or other warm location before you try to use or charge it. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

And: Try not to let it get that cold in the first place!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
