A reader asks: “My laptop screen is upside down. How can I fix it?”

(Answer requested by Daniel Price.)

If you have a more-or-less normal PC running more-or-less normal Windows, you can flip the screen orientation — up, down, sideways right, sideways left — just by tapping a few keys.

It’s possible you accidentally hit one of these key combinations.

(They key combinations are deliberately weird to make them hard to hit by accident. But still, stuff happens.)

Anyway: It’s easy to fix using the same key combinations.

With one of your hands, press and hold down the CTRL and ALT keys; with the other hand, tap any arrow key. CTRL+ALT+Up Arrow is for the normal screen orientation; CTRL+ALT+ Down or Right or Left Arrow will flip the screen the other three ways.

If you’re using another OS or if your PC maker or screen vendor diddled with the orientation settings, the above standard key combinations may not work. In that case, search your vendor’s support site for “screen orientation.”

But for standard Windows PCs, the CTRL+ALT+ARROW should work!
