The old ‘Windows Secrets’ gang is back!

Good news! As many of you already know, Woody Leonhard is folding the Windows Secrets newsletter and Lounge into the operations at AskWoody.com.

He’s enlisted many of the original Windows Secrets crew to help out, including me, Susan Bradley, Tracy Capen, Woody himself, and others (list).

I’m principally involved with the newly-launched AskWoody Plus newsletter, which is very much cast in the mold of the classic Windows Secrets newsletter.

There have been three issues so far. In the first issue, my column discussed:

  • Windows Activation keys: ‘Use ’em or lose ’em?’
  • Recovering from a data-eating ‘INVALID PARTITION FOR DRIVE SIZE” error
  • Choosing the best free MS Office alternatives

My second column discussed:

  • Five different ways to fix airplane mode malfunctions (including a new one-click, instant reset for all your network adapters)
  • A look at some of the new energy-use monitors in Win10’s Task Manager

I’m not the only newsletter author, of course — those two issues, and the third issue (published just today), contain plenty more good information from the rest of the Windows Secrets gang.

Current plans call for the newsletter to be published each week, with in-between updates as required. I’ll have a column in every other issue or so, and plan to mostly focus on topics more complex and involved than the items that typically appear here on Langa.Com.

For now, AskWoody Plus is entirely free and open to the public! Drop by, take a look, poke around the newsletters and the rest of the entire, vibrant AskWoody site!

Eventually, the “Plus” content will be for subscribers only, but — also following in the Windows Secrets tradition — Woody uses a “pay what you think it’s worth” model for Plus subscriptions. No one need feel ‘priced out’ of access to good information: You can help to keep the lights lit and the servers running by contributing whatever you think is fair. (Plus membership information.)

Meanwhile, over here at Langa.com, I’ll continue posting shorter, ‘quick take’ kinds of columns and items. Send in your questions, and I’ll answer ’em if I can!

Hope to see and hear from you here, and over at AskWoody.com!
