“Why was the OBB folder missing on my phone after I factory reset it?”

(Answer requested by Emm Riosa)

OBB files — Opaque Binary Blobs — are files used to store extra data generated by some Android games and apps. This data is private and encrypted (hence “opaque”) so that only the app that generated an OBB can read it.

The key thing is that these OBBs are usually generated by add-on apps and games that are usually not part of the phone’s original, as-delivered, “factory” setup.

So, here’s what probably happened: You installed games or other apps that created private OBBs on your phone. The factory-reset then did what factory resets do — it returned all the phone’s software to its original, as-delivered, condition; erasing all non-original files and settings on the phone, including all non-original OBBs.

In short, the folder’s gone because you erased it. Sorry!
